Abstract
Compensation of the effects of wall on through-the-wall synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging is a main concern. Wall parameters are essential for the compensation, which are normally not known a priori. After analysis of echo configuration characteristics in time domain, a new procedure for estimating wall parameters is proposed, which is based on the idea of exploiting the correlation between the measured returns reflected from the wall and the corresponding estimates calculated from a SAR return model of the wall together with electromagnetic theory. The new approach deals with echo data without imaging or localisation processing, and has a less resolution requirement.
