Abstract
In this letter, we exploit the Cauchy-Gaussian mixture model to approximate the symmetric α-stable (SαS) distribution. An optimal mixture ratio that only depends on α is derived from minimizing the average approximation error. We then consider the signal detection with a linear Rake receiver and present an approximate expression for error performance. Furthermore, the performances of several typical linear Rake techniques are compared analytically. Numerical results are provided to corroborate the proposed studies.
