Abstract
Research and development activities of West European utilities, manufacturers, and research institutions in the domain of expert system applications for power system control are surveyed. The development of 12 expert system applications in different project states from prototype to practical use in an electric utility is studied. To get information on the present state of these projects, 13 research institutions, manufacturers, and utilities were asked to fill out a questionnaire. The answers to the questionnaire, which was filled out by 10 institutions, and the comments by the developers are briefly cited and summarized.<>
