  • Abstract
In this paper, we describe a performance improvement method of the long-range navigation (LORAN) system in the field of the accurate timing applications by compensating diurnal variations. The diurnal variations in the received LORAN-C timing data can be effectively reduced by using the correlation between the LORAN-C and the temperature with/without humidity data. For achieving the timing accuracy improvement, we estimated the correlation values, and by using the estimated values, we compensated the diurnal variations. It is observed that more than 30% performance improvement in the aspect of RMS values can be achieved when the smoothing intervals are more than 30 min.
