Abstract
A multiparameter sensitivity index of performance is defined for linear time-invariant networks, and is used to investigate the sensitivity performance of lowpass LC ladder filters. A procedure is outlined for determining, for a given filter, an `optimum tolerance set¿ which ensures that the various element changes contribute equally to the total change in the filter performance. A `2-level¿ optimisation procedure is also proposed for the optimum design of linear networks. The first step in the procedure is to use optimal search techniques, in conjunction with the index of performance, to obtain an optmium set of nominal values for the elements of the network. The next step is to determine the optimum tolerance set for this set of element values. This procedure has been shown to be most effective in the optimisation of the overall sensitivity performance of a wide range of networks.
