  • Abstract
Democracy Framework is an effort to introduce (liberal) democracy practice and methodologies in online-communities, through embedding a set of components that constitute a framework responsible for monitoring and detecting and eventually reacting to democracy related issues in online-communities. As power and governance structures are increasingly migrating to online communities, importance and our responsibility of governing virtual-worlds to the same values as offline-worlds is drastically increasing. Society needs to bring real world values and standards into those new (“wild west”) worlds and not to lose, for the second time, an expensive battle that has been mostly won in offline-world. Compared to liberation technology, that gives a chance (and a set of tools) to society for expanding freedom in physical world (and only indirectly in virtual-world), Democracy Framework is a technology that helps expanding freedom in virtual world. Democracy Framework vision includes defining standards and checking mechanisms that will classify online systems and certificate them as democratic ones.
