Abstract
A new approach is presented for modelling dynamic linear time-invariant systems with transport delays. These delays can be either in the forward path or in the feedback loop, or in both. The presence of transcendental terms in the closed-loop transfer function prevents the direct use of the Heviside expansion in the inverse Laplace transformation. The difficulty is overcome by time partitioning; i.e. the operation time is divided into intervals whose duration is dependent on the time delays. Response transforms are then derived for each interval, and the overall time response is obtained by the superposition of the inverse Laplace transforms assigned to the corresponding time-partitioned intervals
