  • Abstract
Describes how, in 1950, four officers and four enlisted men were ordered to a school at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC, USA, where they were to learn about a system that would automatically and instantaneously encrypt and decrypt facsimile transmissions over long-distance high-frequency radio paths. Initially, the project was called Facsimile Applique´ Equipment, but later it was known as the AFSAX 500 Program
