Abstract
There are two fairly evenly divided schools of thought on whether “square” or “round” is the better geometry to employ for railgun bores. The question is examined from the point of view of research launchers as well as of fieldable launchers. Many criteria are examined and the conclusion is reached that “square” is better for research launchers. The same conclusion is reached for fieldable launchers but the case is not quite as strong
