Abstract
When using a telephone circuit for data transmission, the effect of certain characteristics on the transmitted data signals have to be evalu ated. Because of the random nature of many of these disturbances, re course is made to statistical methods based on extended tests using special measuring equipment and computer-based data reduction methods. From these, mathematical models of the various circuits can be fommiated whereby the optimum arrangement of the transmitted data and the effectiveness of various error detection and correction systems, can be determined.
