Abstract
In wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) optical systems, cross-phase modulation induced by Kerr effect gives rise to nonlinear phase modulation of each channel, which depends on the overall power in all the other channels. In this letter, the fiber propagation of WDM optical signals affected by cross-phase modulation is analyzed. In particular, the effect due to fiber chromatic dispersion is evaluated after that cross-phase modulation has arisen and stabilized.
