Abstract
As a machining tool, lasers have well known strengths and limitations. As such, they have established a firm place for themselves in a great many applications where materials, machining requirements and automation combine to make them more suitable than mechanical machining methods. By way of illustration, the author looks at trends and new developments of all sorts in laser technology for manufacturing, its safety issues and a few new solutions and machines/systems
