Abstract
This paper sets out the views of a group of people, mainly Industry Training Board staff, with interests across a wide range of process industries. The aim of the paper is to draw attention to the professional engineering needs of the process industries and ensure the continuation and further development of education and training to meet their requirements. It examines: the changes, particularly in technology, which are affecting the process industries. the implications for the role of their engineering personnel. whether a new approach is needed to the education and training of such personnel.
