Abstract
In order to design a Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) system, it is of great benefit to know how to shape the coils. The total passive energy storage requirements have been analytically derived for Series-Series (SS) and Series-Parallel (SP) compensation techniques for circular and square WPT systems. Additionally, mutual coupling (and thus maximum power transfer) is compared between the two geometries. It can been seen that circular geometries offer better coupling in perfect alignment while square types are better under misalignment and when one coil passes over the other coil.
