  • Abstract
The authors report results for four 1.8-m-long dipoles built as part of the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) research and development program. Except for length, these models have the features of the SSC design, which is based on a two-layer cosine theta coil with a 4-cm aperture. Compared to the 17-m design-length SSC dipoles, the 1.8-m magnets are faster and more economical way of testing changes in field shape design, conductor support in the coil straight section and ends, etc. The four magnets reported all reach fields in excess of 7.5 T with little training and have excellent field shape
