Abstract
Results of Hall effect and Hall resistivity measurements for single-phase REBa2Cu3O7-δ (RE=Y, Sm, Gd, Dy, Tm, Yb) and YBa2Cu3O7-δ single crystals around and above T c are reported. For all polycrystalline samples the Hall numbers V 0/R He are positive and show a linear temperature dependence in the range 120 K<T <300 K. Between 80 K and 95 K a nonlinear behavior of the Hall resistivity ρ xy as a function of the magnetic field B with a change of sign is observed in all polycrystalline samples. The strong field dependence of ρxy near T c can be attributed to the effect of grain boundaries which can dominate the Hall resistivity by their low carrier concentration. In contrast to the polycrystals the single crystals show a linear field dependence above T c and no change of sign in ρxy
