  • Abstract
Science and engineering publishing is booming. The number of manuscripts, papers, and electronic journals; the opportunities for publishing online; and indexing sources are all growing at a rapid rate. Part of this can be attributed to the growth in the science and engineering enterprise, and this is especially true in our field of biomedical engineering. Yet, one might still ask: Is this publishing explosion necessary for the continuing growth of science and engineering? Does everything that we publish have a significant impact on the field and society? Often, we only look at the quantity rather than the quality when it comes to publications. We see this far too often in academia.
