Abstract
In this work two modulated signals are transmitted through a passive component with nonlinear properties, which is modeled as generators of Passive Intermodulation (PIM) products. Such a channel is described as nonlinear. In the first stage of the receiver an Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) is added as a receiver noise. The PIM effects on the Bit Error Rate (BER) and Symbol Error Rate (SER) of M-PSK modulations are investigated. A model to predict the probability density function (pdf) of the PIM products and the PIM interference along with AWGN is identified here according to a mathematical derivation of the receive signal which is extracted from the output of the Narrow Bandpass Filter (BPF) on the receiver side. Envelope and phase variations of the filtered receive signal are characterized by specific distributions. The BER and SER are reported here for two cases in the presence of the Intermodulation interference alone and in the presence of Intermodulation interference along with AWGN and a comparison between the two cases is presented.
