Abstract
This letter introduces a type of nonactive power characteristic for systems with randomly varying loads. The randomness power is a nonactive power component. It is due to the contribution of subharmonics with extremely low frequencies. It may produce additional power loss and power factor reduction. Factors like duration of intervals, the total number of intervals, the number and types of loads involved (arc furnace versus street lights for example), control the statistics that characterize the load randomness and the randomness power.
