Abstract
Verification technologies and methods are discussed in the context of a recent treaty that would bring about the first large-scale reductions in conventional forces in Europe. The techniques described include four types of on-site inspection; national technical means, such as satellite photoreconnaissance, radar satellite surveillance, electronic intelligence gathering, signal intelligence gathering, etc. and the use of unique identifiers or tags. Sampling techniques for site selection are considered.<>
