  • Abstract
    The ability of seismic methods to monitor underground nuclear explosions and implications for test ban verification are discussed. Technical aspects of seismic monitoring are examined, and seismic-based yield estimation is explained. Three major developments since 1987 concerning technical issues, all providing consistent evidence about the accuracy of seismic methods and increasing confidence in them, are described.<>
