Abstract
Since privatisation in 1990, the National Grid Company (NGC) has been able to improve overall transmission system reliability while at the same time enabling the delivered price of electricity to be reduced in real terms to both industrial and domestic consumers. The author discusses the role of NGC transmission, operating and capital efficiencies of the transmission business, generation activity, restructuring effects on customers, and developments in transmission.
