Abstract
The European microelectronics and computer industry, which has trailed Japanese and US competitors in technology and market share, is examined. The impact of European Community (EC) rulings and of actions taken by the various European companies is considered. As they consolidate and reorganize to better cope with the present downturn, European computer companies are also beginning to plan for the opportunities and challenges posed by integration of the EC market.<>
