Abstract
Micron calcium carbonate (CaCO3) particles with different morphologies were prepared using calcium chloride and sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) aqueous solutions containing various amounts of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) or ethanol. The products were characterised by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. A spindle CaCO3 particle was synthesised in 25% ethanol solution at room temperature. In the presence of 5%g EDTA, CaCO3 hemispheres could be vastly obtained in a highly morphological yield. A twin-sphere CaCO3 particle was obtained when 5 g EDTA and 25 ethanol solution was used in all. The growing mechanism of CaCO3 particles was discussed.
