Abstract
Implementation and experimental test results of a neural adaptive power system stabilizer (NAPSS) are presented in this paper. The digital control system is composed of a micro-alternator, a programmable logic controller (PLC) acting as AVR, a data acquisition system, a PC-based man-machine-interface (MMI) routine and a digital signal processor (DSP) board as the controller. The proposed NAPSS has been tested for a variety of operating conditions and disturbances. A digital-type conventional stabilizer has also been implemented in the same environment for comparison purposes. Results of the laboratory studies show that the proposed NAPSS effectively damps low frequency oscillations and improves power system stability
