  • Abstract
    This paper deals with a power/energy monitory scheme using Zigbee and GSM communication technology. A dedicated hardware unit or portable display (PD) is developed which is able to communicate with energy meter installed with the consumer´s own premises. The PD is capable of communicating with the energy meter using 2.4 GHz Zigbee module. The meters must also be customized with the incorporation of Zigbee module so that a communication with the PD with in coverage ranges of few meters around the energy meter´s location is established. The energy meter data regarding the energy consumption can thus be communicated to PD and the PD can display this data. An optical GSM module interfacing facility is also provided within the PD for the convenience of the consumers. If desired, the consumption related data can also be sent as a GSM message to a predefined mobile for its remote access from anywhere within the world.
