Abstract
A new multidimensional trellis-coded modulation (TCM) for phase shift keying (PSK) systems is proposed in which the designs of the trellis encoder and the multi-D signal set partitioning are tied together by introducing additional redundancy. It reduces the complexity by eliminating the necessity of the multidimensional signal set mapper used in moist multi-D TCM systems. The method works for both an odd and an even number of inputs. The flexibility is thus increased. Its performance is comparable with methods reported in the literature
