  • Abstract
Large-capacity wind turbine generators using superconducting technology have been studied. Finite element analysis has verified large potential of high-temperature superconductors, and revealed that a 10 MW class compact wind turbine generator can be designed using high-temperature superconducting technologies. Such a large-capacity wind turbine generator becomes a very low-speed high-torque rotating machine, which is realized with high-field superconducting coils. In these machines, high electromagnetic force and torque are important issued to be carefully considered. This paper discusses electromagnetic characteristics of 10 MW class superconducting wind turbine generators.
