Abstract
Summary form only given. Nano-granular-in-gap (GIG) films have been proposed for use as magnetic sensors due to their large tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) ratio. A Monte Carlo (MC) simulation is performed of magnetotransport across a 50/spl times/50 nm GIG film consisting of Co islands embedded in an insulating matrix, between contact electrodes. The islands magnetization is given by the Langevin function, while that of the contacts is obtained by micromagnetic simulation. We apply the orthodox theory of single charge tunneling to model the interplay between superparamagnetic and Coulomb charging effects.
