Abstract
This paper describes the necessary elements required for successful validation of computer simulation models used in system security studies. Relevant NERC generator compliance standards are briefly discussed. Guidelines for preparation, model selection, tests performed, analysis of results and reporting are discussed. Alternatives to testing, such as disturbance monitoring are also presented.
