Abstract
The presented regional signal coordinated control system includes a macroscopic traffic prediction model and an ant algorithm to search the global optimal signal settings. The prediction model is based on a platoon dispersion model. With the definition of a layered construction graph to represent the corresponding solution space and the definition of the local heuristic information with the transient traffic delay of individual intersections, the ant algorithm can not only find the global optimal solution but also realize smooth switch between different signal settings. The simulation results of a network with 9 intersections demonstrate that the performance of this system is evidently better than the traffic responsive control system of isolated intersections.
