Abstract
This paper presents the design of a small dual band patch antenna for Bluetooth and HIPERLAN applications. A novel shaped patch for multiband operations is introduced. A substrate with dielectric constant 3.2 and height 3.175mm is used for the design. The patch dimensions are comparable to that of the conventional rectangular patch resonating in the lower frequency band. The antenna is fed by a 50 Ω coaxial cable. Genetic algorithm optimization is used to optimize the patch geometry and feed position. Simulations are carried out by using HFSS.
