Abstract
In this paper, we provide a literature review based comparative analysis of the current state-of-the-art methods on 3D imaging of human brain in the diagnostics of insomnia and depression. In addition, a novel insomnia/depression diagnostics approach is proposed, which is based on 2D distance transforms, and it is compared with the existing state-of-the-art insomnia/depression diagnostics approaches. Our new feature extraction method has proved its good performance and nice characteristics in other application areas and thus we will utilize its improved version in our proposal. We also present a 3D version of the utilized distance transforms and discuss their nice characteristics and great potential. Moreover, we will present some new ideas that will be used in our future research work.
