Abstract
In this paper a generalized RAKE receiver (G-Rake) is derived and analyzed for synchronized uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) transmission of a WCDMA TDD system. The commonly used RAKE receiver, which is a filter matched to the multipath channel, deals with the overall interference as zero-mean white Gaussian noise while the G-RAKE also takes the colored nature of the interference into account. Contrary to the conventional RAKE receiver the G-RAKE may utilize more RAKE fingers than the number of multipaths in the channel. By taking the color of the interference into account when combining the fingers, the interference can be suppressed. We conclude that the increase in complexity by using a G-RAKE instead of a conventional RAKE receiver is rather small, while the gain in performance for both UL and DL is significant.
