The following topics are dealt with: Rome Air Development Center, initiatives in CAE (computer-aided engineering) for R&M (reliability and maintainability), R&M~CAE implementation in electronic development; DoD/industry studies related to CALS (computer-aided acquisition and logistic support) R&M; mechanical-reliability prediction; concurrent design; the definition of tool requirements for CAE/CAD vendors; enabling technologies for part parameter data, component models, and data structure; and R&M task automation, macro capabilities, computerization of RM&S in design, and survey results.
