Abstract
This paper evaluates the capability of grid to accommodate the solar Photovoltaic power through the dispatching method that deploying the synergy between the PV power and the grid load. Since no storage device is included, the capital investment of such PV integration method is reduced. The historical sunlight irradiation, load demand and operating code from Shandong province of China are combined to evaluate the proposed method. The lower limit of the total output of the dispatchable units is calculated under different operating modes. Within the adjustable range of the dispatchable units, the PV and the dispatchable units complement each other to follow the demand fluctuations. The result shows that the PV accommodation capability of the grid is determined by the downward adjusting ability of its dispatchable units at the low demand hours. As more panels are deployed, the share of PV electricity increases but the utilizing rate of PV panels will decrease which means that each kW of PV capacity will produce less of electricity and subsequently increase the cost of both the PV generation and the energy supply.
