  • Abstract
This paper introduces a method for initial dimensioning of air interface of WCDMA based systems including HSUPA based UMTS networks. This method includes also downlink multiple services case. It is called “Fixed Point Iterative” is inspired from mutual dependence of coverage and capacity in WCDMA cells and based on an iterative process illustrating load balancing. This method, described for both uplink and dimensioning, is characterized by its simplicity and enough accuracy as required for a preliminary planning. The background modeling of the method is given along with the algorithm description and a graphical illustration. In addition to its support for operators in simplifying the planning task by starting with a good dimensioning estimation, the basic idea of this suggested method can, eventually, be of contribution to adopt non-complex methodologies and enhance existing ones for future generations of mobile systems such as HSPA+ and LTE.
