Abstract
This paper presents the design of a magnetically geared PM machine with an inner stator. Both magnetically coupled and decoupled configurations are evaluated. Key design aspects are discussed. The machine is optimized for maximum torque per active mass using two-dimensional finite element (FE) analysis. Special attention is also paid to cogging torque minimization. The performance characteristics of the machine is further evaluated using three-dimensional FE analysis. Finally, the mechanical construction of the machine is also discussed in detail.
