Abstract
It is highlighted that the electricity sector presents a challenge and an opportunity in the battle against climate change, as it is the fastest growing source of GHG emissions. For this purpose, efficiency improvement is crucial to a sustainable energy future, as it could deliver more than half of the required energy reductions. Electric motors classification based on minimum energy performance standard (MEPS), with an overview of the state of the art is provided. Based on experimental results, the authors illustrated the huge potential of energy savings, permitted by VFD in the centrifugal pump systems. Nonetheless the energy efficiency EE is commonly recognized as a key option in the 450 ppm scenario success, current efforts fall well short of tapping its full economic potential. To assure for efficiency a larger market penetration, we can make appeal to the legislation, like that was successfully made in the case of Premium motors in North America.
