  • Abstract
The aim of the research in this paper is to find out the limitations and applicability of thermal insulation, as well as to arise the aspects that should be taken into consideration when using this strategy in that climate. Emphasis is given on the optimisation of thermal insulation on residential buildings. Studies are then developed through the use of numerical simulations. The findings provide useful information, which are translated to design guidelines for building designers. The results show that insulating from the outside has a clear advantage over conventional insulation techniques.
