Abstract
The benefits of deploying existing products (switch remote unit and line multiplexer) on an SDH transport network are outlined. IT is demonstrated that it is possible to achieve a pre fiber-in-the-loop (FITL) deployment capable of providing all the services required while laying the backbone and preparing the transition to FITL system. Line multiplexers and small remote units can achieve a service rich platform. It is demonstrated that careful planning can reduce the amount of fiber rework and make network deployment more future proof
