Abstract
Marine ranching is a new concept of modern fishery, which has extremely significance to the development of modern ocean economy. Various technologies are required to ensure the efficiency of marine ranching. Among those, the technology of ocean resource assessment, especially fish resource, plays an indispensible and key role. This paper introduces an effective and precise method to assess the fishery resource in a marine ranching based on dual-frequency identification sonar (DIDSON). The cores of this fishery resource assessment method are target detection and target tracking. There are many methods available for target detection and target tracking, in this paper, saliency extraction combined with background removing method and extended Kalman filter (EKF) method are utilized for target detection and target tracking respectively. Through this assessing method, indexes of fish resource are calculated, such as fish number, the mean speed and the mean swimming direction of fish, and the fish size.
