Handset antennas: The next five years

This paper describes the progress made in the design of antennas for mobile handsets in recent years, during which a handset has become a multi-functional communications and information terminal. The paper describes current benchmarks for dimensions and performance and discusses future increases in functionality. These will require major innovation in order to provide antennas for the growing number of frequency bands and radio systems with which a handset must provide service.
