Abstract
The future of fibre in the loop (FITL) systems will be governed by the results of the full service access network (FSAN) action. To date it is totally unknown as to which of those system elements can be further used for new purposes. The decisions for further future actions will be driven by pure economic considerations rather than exploiting the technical potentials of an available technology. Therefore, application of WDM technology in the access is still an open question but in the case of extensive use of it in the core network, a pressure for it may come based on system compatibility reasons
