Abstract
Demand on the exchange of very large sized multimedia data over the Internet is getting higher. P2P overlay networks have been used for the purpose of file sharing to meet the users´ demands on their contents exchanges. However, P2P networks have security problems since unspecified users can join the network and publish files. In this paper, we propose a new advanced node insertion attack in Kademlia-based P2P (Kad) networks. To maximize the impact by node insertion attacks, the proposed method falsifies availability values. We implemented the attacks by using an open source program called eMule, and tested the impact of the proposed attack in our own constructed real Kad network test bed.
