Abstract
The problem of designing linear optimal control systems with additional design specifications is considered. Decoupled control specifications in the time domain are discussed. A parameter optimization approach is used to determine the elements of a diagonal state weighting matrix such that the specifications are satisfied. This is done by solving an unconstrained minimization problem. The application of the proposed method is demonstrated in the design of a decoupled lateral control system for an aircraft. The J.A. Snyman (1983) algorithm is used in the minimization procedure
