  • Abstract
We consider a shared wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (Shared-WDM-PON) that integrates a GPON´s wavelength to WDM-PONs for providing video-on-demand (VoD) services. A major problem in a VoD system is playback delay. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to video delivery, termed prediction-based OLT broadcasting and ONU patching (PBP) that uses an agent for tracing the user´s interference to predict the video popularity at each ONU. The PBP schedules popular videos similar to the optimization problem defined in the coordinated OLT broadcast scheduling and ONU patching (CBP) scheme according to the predicted users´ preferences at each ONUs. We validated our proposed scheme using the OPNET simulator. Our simulation results show that the PBP outperforms the CBP in term of worst-case playback delay.
