Abstract
With smart grids being developed world-wide in the power industry, more and more renewable energy resources are connected into power grids. Due to their intermittency in nature, they impose challenges on Automatic Generation Control (AGC) in Energy Management System (EMS). This paper presents extended term dynamic simulation to quantify AGC performance (CPS1, CPS2) in power systems with smart grids. The extended term dynamic simulation is presented. An AGC dynamic model, a load dynamic model and a wind generation dynamic model are developed. A sample system is used to implement the simulation. AGC performance (CPS1, CPS2) are calculated. Simulation results are presented.
