  • Abstract
Summary form given only. In this study, we utilize the SPECT3D Imaging and Spectral Analysis package to post-process the results from LSP PIC simulations to generate images and spectra that can be directly compared with experimental measurements. In high-intensity, short-pulse laser (SPL) experiments, energetic protons and relativistic electrons are created and propagate through the target. The transport characteristics of these energetic particles are a critical issue in research invoking short-pulse lasers. The combination of well-diagnosed experiments and well-tested simulation tools is needed in order to develop a good under standing of energetic particle transport through dense plasmas. In this work, we report on results from multi-dimensional collisional-radiative simulations performed using SPECT3D in which the output from LSP simulations is post-processed. SPECT3D modeling includes the effects of both relativistic electrons and energetic proton beams in computing non-LTE atomic level populations, emergent spectra, and images for the target plasma. This procedure allows us to study diagnostic signatures arising from energetic particles. We will present example results from simulations of Al or Cu targets, and comparisons with available experimental data.
