Abstract
In WDM networks, the bandwidth request of a traffic stream is usually much lower than the capacity of a wavelength. As an important TE (traffic engineering) scheme, traffic grooming can aggregate low-rate connections onto high-capacity lightpaths to make efficient use of the bandwidth. Most of the research related to traffic grooming has focused on ring networks, and less concern has been shown to the QoS for WDM mesh networks. We propose a QoS-specified traffic grooming algorithm, named BMST (balanced maximizing single-hop traffic), which considers both the hops of the lightpath and load balance in the network. Some simulations and analysis are also given.
